Safari 7 Days — Nairobi to the Coast

Itinerary

1. 1
   Day 1Nairobi to the Maasai Mara

   Pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport. We drive to the Maasai Mara with a lunch stop in Narok, game-driving on our way to camp. The reserve forms a single ecosystem with the Serengeti and is famous for the great migration, which heads north from the Serengeti in July and returns in September–October. Dinner and overnight — you may even see hippos from the camp veranda.

   Day 2Full day in the Maasai Mara

   Breakfast and departure around 07:00 for a game drive, with lunch by the Mara River (box lunch) or at camp depending on the animals. Afternoon safari and return to camp at sunset for dinner and overnight.

   Day 3Lake Nakuru

   We leave the Mara for Lake Nakuru, arriving in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge. Afternoon photo safari in this alkaline lake park, home to thousands of flamingos, both white and black rhinos, tree-climbing lions (if we are lucky), warthogs, waterbucks, zebras, buffaloes and baboons. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

   Day 4Amboseli

   Early departure for Amboseli. Game drive as soon as we enter: lions, gazelles, giraffes, elephant herds, buffaloes, zebras and hyenas beneath Kilimanjaro. Sunset at Lake Amboseli with its hippos, then dinner and a Maasai welcome show around the campfire.

5. 5
   Day 5Tsavo West

   Early breakfast and departure for Tsavo West. We stop at the Shetani lava flow (8 km long) and walk to the crystal-clear Mzima Springs to see hippos and crocodiles. Lunch at the lodge overlooking a busy waterhole, then an afternoon drive to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight — the lucky ones may spot a leopard after dinner.

6. 6
   Day 6Tsavo East & Mudanda Rock

   Wake up at 05:30, breakfast and departure at 06:30. Photo safari out of Tsavo West and on to Tsavo East, driving towards Mudanda Rock. Lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, cheetahs and hippos on the Galana River. Lunch at 13:00, afternoon game drive from 15:30 until sunset, dinner and overnight.

   Day 7Last game drive & the coast

   Breakfast and a final game drive before leaving the park for the coast and your resort in Watamu.
